It's free, and it's one person's project
The Dorm Packing List is free to use and there is nothing to buy here. It is made and run by BYTSized LLC, not by a company with a support desk. Expect it to be reliable; don't expect a guarantee.
Keep your own backup
Your lists are saved in your browser and on the server, and that is genuinely two places — but servers fail, browsers get cleared, and phones go in lakes. The app has an Export backup button that saves a file to your device. If a list matters to you, use it.
We are not able to recover lost lists. There is no email address on your account, so there is nothing to verify a claim against and no copy set aside to restore from.
Your recovery key is yours to look after
Anyone who has your recovery key can read and change your lists. Don't post it anywhere. If you think someone else has it, generate a new key in the app — that immediately stops the old one from working.
Don't be the reason this gets shut down
Please don't:
- Attack the site, hammer it with automated requests, or try to reach lists that aren't yours.
- Store anything illegal in a list, or anything you'd be in trouble for holding.
- Use it to harass a person.
Accounts doing any of that can be deleted without warning. There are also plain limits built in — a cap on how many lists and items one account can hold, and a cap on how fast new accounts can be made from one connection.
Amazon links
Some items show a 🛒 link that searches Amazon. We don't sell anything, don't ship anything, and have no part in an order you place — that's between you and Amazon, under their terms. Nothing in the app is a recommendation that you should buy a particular thing from a particular seller, and prices and availability are entirely Amazon's.
The site as it is
The site is provided as it is, with no warranty of any kind — not that it will always be available, not that it will be free of bugs, and not that it will still exist next year. To the fullest extent the law allows, the operator isn't liable for losses arising out of using it, including lost lists, and including anything you forgot to pack. If some law where you live doesn't allow a limitation like that, then it doesn't apply to you, and the rest of these terms still stand.
Changes and endings
These terms can change; the date at the top will say when. The site may change, lose features, or be shut down. If it is going to be shut down deliberately, the intent is to say so on this page first and leave the export button working — but export now anyway.
Age
Don't use this site if you're under 13.
